A friend of mine has a Sony Vaio VPCS11C5E.
He has his laptop setup with an external mouse, keyboard and monitor. The laptop lies under a stand, under the monitor with the lid closed. With the lid closed, running speedtest.net shows speeds of less than 1 Mbps on a 20 Mbps connection. With the lid open, the speed increases to 20Mbps.
The closed lid appears to be drastically attenuating the wireless signal. Has anybody else experienced this problem? Has anybody found a solution, other than plugging it into an ethernet connection?
Thanks for reading,
Martin
Hi Martin,
I think your conclusion is correct in that that closing the lid is impeding the Wi-Fi antennas which are usually housed in the screen surround.
You could try attaching an external antenna to the card but this will not be a tidy or easy solution.
