XP - Vista upgrade question

Hello,

Apologies if this question appears rather old...

I have a Vaio Media Center running XP - an old VGX-XL model.

I have the Sony upgrade discs for Windows Vista.

If I run the Vista upgrade, does it erase my hard drive? I have the drive partitioned to C:, and D:, but don't want to lose anything on D:.

Thanks in advance,

Paul

Hi Paul.

It is a while ago now but if I recall correctly, Sony chose to only support a 'Clean Install' when you use the Sony Express Upgrade Discs.  The 'Upgrade' Option was turned off and, although it is offered when you run the discs, only the Clean Install works.

This will erase the drive before installing Vista and you would need to back up or 'mirror' everything and reinstall any of your programs on C:\ and all your Data on D:\.

My memory may be faulty, so you could always check with Vaio Support.

Personally, on balance, I would probably stick with XP.
