In order to resolve your issue we would require more details on the type and brand of your devices, including the connection types and the converter you mention.

 

It would also help if you add a better description of the steps you have taken so far. As from your initial post your test conclusions are ambiguous.

 

If I were to suggest a test at this point based on what I understand, it would be to try connecting your TV using a different optical cable to a receiver which does have an optical input. Perhaps you can ask a family member or friend to offer you their’s if you don’t have one at home. At the end of the day, you want to be 100% sure that your TV is faulty before you request a service repair.
