Sony XPERIA XA2 Ultra H4233 Qualcomm Certified 3.0 charging time

I have purchased a brand new Sony XPERIA XA2 Ultra H4233 64GB and Qualcomm Certified QC3.0 Quick Charge adapter for my car and using my original Sony USB-C cable.

The charging time is extremely slow. It never able to charge the phone more than 2444 mA during the cycle and it drops back to 400/900 mA. So It takes from 10% to 100% almost 2.0 hours long in ide mode which is ridiculously long!

I have tested the phone with my older QC2.0 in the car and it charges more or less the same speed.

I have reported this to Sony but never received a clear feedback about why it's charging to slow while the phone should be QC3.0 compatible.

What I have done from my side:

1. Switched on Airplane mode

2. Switched the phone completely off

3. Take the second device (Bluetooth headset) out of the charger.

4. Installed from a clean format the latest ROM on the device.

5. Loading the phone in save mode is a nonsense.

6. Change the original USB-C cable to AIFFECTS.USB cable

7. Enable disabled the battery lifespan protection

8. Swab the QC3.0 Quick Charge adapter to another car,

All those actions didn't resolved the problem or noticed any difference.

I am reading on the form that many people experience issues after they upgrade to OREO 8.0

Why does Sony not admit there is a problem with fast charging?

Next, how are we going to resolve this issue?

As a customer, I am unable to upgrade the ROM to higher OS version like OREO 8.1 and wondering why the phone is still NOT supported by Open Source Project (AOSP)?

The new OS version could potentially resolve the problem according to insiders.

See the website https://developer.sony.com/develop/open-devices/get-started/supported-devices-and-functionality

I personally believe this issue occurs because of the Kernel version or it's a hardware failure.

According to the website from Qualcomm, the SDM630 chipset should even support Qualcomm® Quick Charge™ 4 technology but even Sony support can't even confirm if this is correct.

See the website: https://www.qualcomm.com/products/snapdragon-630-mobile-platform

If more customers experience this issue, please report it on the form so that Sony is resolving this soon with a patch or OS upgrade or allowing customers to upgrade the phone by them self through AOSP..

P.s. my "Charger Tester ampere meter app)" is giving me the following technical information.

CPU IDLE 3.0 mA

CPU AWAKE UNSUPPORTED

CPU ACTIVE UNSUPPORTED

I too was hoping for quick charge capability.  I think they have it disabled in software to prolong battery life and promote their own battery care options.

Hi  Jason, thank you for the first feedback. I am convinced that more people have the same issue. If Sony disabled this option why do they advertise the phone as QC3.0 compatible with a large capacity phone?

When I am running my navigation plus Bluetooth on the phone and connect it to the QC3.0 it barely charges because it discharges more than it charged due to the mA speed! To change the brightness level lower doesn't resolved the issue).

@VoyagerUSA can you please let us know what adapter are you using? Also, does it happen in car only or if you try to charge by wall socket?

This is the car charger adapter I am using.

I don't have a QC3.0 wall socket adapter but hope to be able to test it in one of the stores and will come back to you soon Alexdon

@Alexdon that would be very helpful.

Also, good to know if the phone with the SDM630 chipset eventually supports the new Qualcomm® Quick Charge™ 4 technology? See the website: https://www.qualcomm.com/products/snapdragon-630-mobile-platform

All Qualcomn 3.0 charging bricks follow the same standards from Qualcomn.  I have tried several that work flawlessly with my other QC 3.0 phones.  The XA2 Ultra just doesn't quick charge.  I am convinced its disabled by software.  The hardware should be supported, and you should be able to using any qualcomn 3.0 charging brick on the market with these phones.

I never bothed to purchase a Qualcomn QC 3.0 car adapter, but seems to be it's just another proof that this phone has quick charging turned off somehow.

@Alexdon  After some hours searching for a certified QC3.0 Wall charger I have the results. See the results/adapther i have used in picture.

P.s. they have attached the original Sony UBS-C cable and their own one. Notice no any differences.

Reboot the phone and charged extremely slow.

I think Sony need to do some investigation why the phones don't charge 3 mA as they mention on the product specification QC3.0 compatible. It never charged faster than 2.4 mA which is QC2.0 !

@VoyagerUSA@JasonSCarter I see. So you charged only with original sony cable and the one that comes with the 3rd party adapter, right? You haven't tried to use UCH12W, correct?

I will escalate this.
