Sony XPERIA XA2 Ultra H4233 Qualcomm Certified 3.0 charging time

I have purchased a brand new Sony XPERIA XA2 Ultra H4233 64GB and Qualcomm Certified QC3.0 Quick Charge adapter for my car and using my original Sony USB-C cable.

The charging time is extremely slow. It never able to charge the phone more than 2444 mA during the cycle and it drops back to 400/900 mA. So It takes from 10% to 100% almost 2.0 hours long in ide mode which is ridiculously long!

I have tested the phone with my older QC2.0 in the car and it charges more or less the same speed.

I have reported this to Sony but never received a clear feedback about why it's charging to slow while the phone should be QC3.0 compatible.

What I have done from my side:

1. Switched on Airplane mode

2. Switched the phone completely off

3. Take the second device (Bluetooth headset) out of the charger.

4. Installed from a clean format the latest ROM on the device.

5. Loading the phone in save mode is a nonsense.

6. Change the original USB-C cable to AIFFECTS.USB cable

7. Enable disabled the battery lifespan protection

8. Swab the QC3.0 Quick Charge adapter to another car,

All those actions didn't resolved the problem or noticed any difference.

I am reading on the form that many people experience issues after they upgrade to OREO 8.0

Why does Sony not admit there is a problem with fast charging?

Next, how are we going to resolve this issue?

As a customer, I am unable to upgrade the ROM to higher OS version like OREO 8.1 and wondering why the phone is still NOT supported by Open Source Project (AOSP)?

The new OS version could potentially resolve the problem according to insiders.

See the website https://developer.sony.com/develop/open-devices/get-started/supported-devices-and-functionality

I personally believe this issue occurs because of the Kernel version or it's a hardware failure.

According to the website from Qualcomm, the SDM630 chipset should even support Qualcomm® Quick Charge™ 4 technology but even Sony support can't even confirm if this is correct.

See the website: https://www.qualcomm.com/products/snapdragon-630-mobile-platform

If more customers experience this issue, please report it on the form so that Sony is resolving this soon with a patch or OS upgrade or allowing customers to upgrade the phone by them self through AOSP..

P.s. my "Charger Tester ampere meter app)" is giving me the following technical information.

CPU IDLE 3.0 mA

CPU AWAKE UNSUPPORTED

CPU ACTIVE UNSUPPORTED

Alexdon The phone comes only the original Sony wall charger, which is max. 1500 mA and not the Quick Charger UCH12.

We have used in the shop the Sony USB-C cable and the 3rd party USB-C cable connected to the Qualcomm Certified 3.0 wall charger. (see in the previous picture attached).

We noticed no any differences between the cables and the charging speed fluctuate a lot.
We have even switched the phone to airplane mode/bright light lower/reboot the phone, but still charging low speed instead of 3 mA with several Qualcomm Certified 3.0 adapters.

See no need to spend $$ on a Sony UCH12W when any certified QC 3.0 adapter should do.  It's spec directly from Qualcomn.  Let us know what you find out.  Still think it's disabled by software for some strange reason.

@JasonSCarter I 100% agree with you. Since the phone chipset is compatible with Qualcomm 3.0 it should be working on any adapters who are certified like mine. As I send before I have used several chargers but no go. Personally can't believe for a brand new phone like this one from middle 2018 is not charing faster than Qualcomm 2.0. Might Sony has disabled fast charging somehow but that would be a big mistake because the consumers want to charge fast the batteries. Otherwise, I might have chosen for another brand who has 100% the capability to charge fast.

@alexdon Send me a message or text me once you have done some more research on this issue. (I am not the only one here) In case there is a higher vendor/open rom available? I am more than happy to test it if this would resolve the problem.

Thanks!

Any update on the charging issue?

So far received no feedback from Sony or from the retail seller after months.

I guess they even don't read the forums here or someone reproduce the issue as I have proof with screenshots. On the box is clearly written Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 and on many sites compatible with Qualcomm 3.0.

P.s. Snapdragon 630 should be even compatible with Qualcomm 4.0 (found on the Qualcomm site)

Sony even don't know (;-

I have given up hope Sony will correct this, or the major bluetooth issues this device has.  The device has been on the market long enough to address these issues.

I am looking at just getting the new Nokia 7.1 (Android One phone) that is coming to the USA.  Then I can sell this XA2 Ultra and get some of my money back towards that purchase.  It's only $350, so it's a pretty good deal regardless.

This may just be me or the fact that I don't notice these things but I've never had a single issue with mine not quick charging because it does every single time whenever I use my anker charger. Pretty much I've purchased all their products for both indoor and for my vehicle that all support Quick Charge 3.0 and it works perfectly fine. So again it might just be me or the fact that maybe I'm one of the few individuals that doesn't have this problem but for everybody else posting on this saying that they have issues I don't understand what the problem is? I can be down to 15% throw it on the charger and within an hour it's already up to 85% as it's designed to do that anyways. I'm a power user and I'm constantly on my phone all the time so that might also be taken into consideration with this? Either way I know for a fact that since I've had this phone for the past several months I've never had a problem with the Quick Charge feature even using the stock USB type-C cable that it came with or ones that I bought from the store, not a single problem at all.
