xa1 NOT charging

I've recently got an xa1 (less than a week). It doesn't want to charge. I've tried all the suggestions I can find such as checking the charger and cable (both are OK, both are Sony). I've tried resetting it. I've tried gently cleaning the charging port and connector. It takes several attempts to get it to start charging - red light and charging icon. Then it stops and I get the empty battery icon. Is this handset faulty or have I missed something?

(My previous phone was an xperia Z and I've never had any problem with it.)

Hello @Bobble27 and welcome to the community!

If you drained your phone battery completely, it might need up to 30 minutes to start charging (with LED indicator and charging icon). Try leaving the phone turned off on a wall charger for continuous 2-3 hours before trying to start it again. And in the future try not to drain the battery completely.

If the phone fails to charge, try another wall charger and/or USB cable. If it's still not charging then contact your Local support and get it inspected by a professional.

Completely draining the battery was accidental.

I can't tell whether the phone is switched on or off, as all I get is the red light and a black screen after the charging icon disappears.

Just let it charge for some time and it should start normally.

The phone is being sent back as it won't charge. I can't access anything 'cos the battery is dead.

Can I do a factory reset so I don't have to send it back with my data still on it?

Firstly, I have just bought Xperia XA1 few days ago.

I am having quite similar problem too.. But only it won't charge if the phone is switched on. 
If I switch it off, it will charge. So I charged till 100%.

After a while, using a lot of data, messaging, calls, the charges went to 50%. So, I charge it back.

Then I realised that I showed the charging icon, but the % still dropping, even after I turned off data, & turned off the Battery Saver setting.

Keeps dropping even though I was not using my phone.

So I will go back to the store & see what is the problem and will update.

I'm wondering whether the xa1 is having "teething problems" with it being so new.

I am having the same problem... My phone is less than a month old and already not wanting to charge.... I have to move the cable to get it to charge... Any one have any solutions? Did a new charger help?
