Was just standing on the bus stop and I feel the three buzzes from my wrist. Smartwatch disconnected. Strange, but it happens sometimes (much more rarely after the last Xperia Z firmware). Except this time it doesn't reconnect. It's just stuck on the screen with the recycle symbol and after about half a minute it shuts off.
This is not the regular animation with the dots to and from the phone. When that doesn't connect, I can at least still use the watch as a watch. Now it's just stuck on that and shuts off.
Tried turning the bluetooth off and on, turned the phone off and on, installed the new Sony Z firmware, nothing helps.

I have a Mac so I'm trying this on my work computer.
It won't connect to the computer. I am aware the connection process is a bit finicky, but no matter how many times I try, I am only getting the same spinning recycle symbol.
edit: I tried one last thing (read about it here) and it actually worked. From the phone's bluetooth settings I unpaired the device and then paired it again and now it works normally.
I'm sorry to hear that. Have you tried updating the software in the SmartWatch via the Sony Update Service?

I can go to the Smartwatch -> About part of my phone, but if I click "update accessory" it just says "Version 0.1.B.1.3. The latest version of the firmware is already installed on your SmartWatch."
How does it know? It doesn't connect to it.
If only there was some way to physically connect it to … anything. Even if I try to charge, I don't get the charge symbol.
I would recommend that you try updating the SmartWatch by connecting it to a PC via USB and using the Update Service program. You can download this here: http://www.sonymobile.com/gb/tools/update-service/
