I have had the new Xperia Z for two days, and am trying to transfer videos onto the phone. But
when I try to transfer it across to the phone it wants to convert the file to a compatable format for the xperia, this takes considerably more time to transfer the file.
The videos Im trying to move across are already MP4 therefore i cant understand why it doesnt recognise the file type as being compatable and wants to convert it first.
Is their special requirements for my videos for the phone to recongise the file as usable and compatable and thereby removing the need for it to spend vast amounts of time converting the files first?
Thanks in advance

you do, try different video players
I have transfered files from my PC to phone over wifi but it is less than perfect, preferable method is connected via USB - the problems were on the PC side not the phone
Intel provide a new set of software and drivers which help but still is by no means perfect
If I use a memory card reader and convert the music files to mp3 and do it that way, would it still work the same way as just adding the files previously said in the thread?
it should work just fine
Just wanted make sure before purchasing a new one as my old one doesn't work any more. Thanks for the help and advice
if you have an unlimited data plan or DSL/broadband connection then you could just upload your music to Box or even better Google Music, or you can upload it then download it on your phone.
By default, Z is connected via USB in Media Transfer Mode (MTP). That's why transfering of videos and audio takes loger time than usual since it still has to go thru android. And is also why the PC will prompt you to change the video encoding if the encoding is not supported by the default video player.
To transfer files faster, you need to connect Z via Mass Storage Mode. To do this, go to your phone Settings > Xperia > USB Connectivity > USB Connection Mode, and select Mass Storage Mode.
Hope this helps.
I will try both options you've given me and let you know how I get on
Thanks for the help, found out that it's a dodgy memory card. I got a memory card reader and put a few files on it and the walkwan player can't find the music I put on and also I tried viewing couple of pics and they won't show in the album. Unless I missed something like formatting the card
try to reformat the card - then create all the correct folders on external sd - you can find a list of default folders doing a simple google search - /music /video / ringtones /notifications / etc
