UK Sony Xperia Z updates for unbranded phones.

Could somebody from Sony please explain why thousands of us are now 3 updates behind now regarding firmware updates?

We are still on 434!

How do we get Sonys attention on this?

UK unbranded and still no update.. What's going on?? My friend has a contracted Z with the latest while I'm still 412 ..I had the Arc that never got ICS and really believed the hype that came with the Z.. I've been with Sony/SE since my T610 , even lived with the satio for 2 years 😉 ..

Notice there has been no official reply,  this seems to be even more annoying to most and I can absolutely see why.. So, come on,  let's have an explanation..  PLEASE.

It does make you wonder why Apple and iOS does so well.
New iOS is released generally right after it's announced at a key note speech and is

available to ALL immediately!

Why Sony has to drag it's heels I don't know, it's not as if there are more XZs than iOS devices!

I can understand branded network based handsets have to wait for the carrier to sort out things their end but unbranded generic handsets?

In fact a new release iOS has been Jailbroken and that jaibreak released to the public in less time than we have waited!

Given that firmware support for this phone ended the month after it was launched for those people who bought a sim free Xperia Z in the UK it makes you wonder what the support will be like in a year's time; non-existent like now. I love this from Sony Mobile's page on the Xperia Z "Why update?

A software update is the best way to keep your phone working smoothly. Better yet: our software updates bring you improvements too. New features, better performance and speed, bug fixes … so make sure your phone runs on the latest software version."

Guess it is okay for us to miss out on all those fixes as Sony is happy for us to have very buggy phones.

Also this "Note that software updates are released at different times depending on provider and country. That’s why we can’t give you an exact date for when a specific update will be available for your phone.

As we do not have any particular providers that canot be the problem preventing a firmware update. As all the network enabled phones in the UK have gotten updates since 434 was released it cannot be a territorial problem. So what is the problem Sony? This is a very simple question.

I've never known such an uncoordinated release program.

At least apple always release their software to all devices at the same time. I love my sony, but I cannot understand it's thinking in the way software is released to the users.

+1. Never thought of it that way - we have essentially been dropped, and left with an unsupported phone.

I was thinking of selling the damn thing and getting something from a manufacturer with a more focused product line and better after sales support, but the most you can seem to get for the Xperia Z is only around £180 from the various phone recycling companies. Still, I think we've all learned our lesson here... I'll certainly never buy or recommend Sony again, regardless of the product.

One important thing to remember though is that taking info from from xda's page http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2315914

There are still 37 custom versions around the world still on 10.1.A.1.253

and even 7 (including UK unbranded) even further behind on 10.1.A.1.434

So until we are the only one left out I'm not going to think we have just been forgotten about on our little island.

Still it is ridiculous of course Angry_Face

I think UK unbranded is the only unbranded in the world still on 434 the other phones still on 434 are network phones.

Zperia Z dropped in price I paid £540 in March at launch you can now buy a brand new from ASDA for £410 so £180 probn a fair price for second hand one. Not bitter about the price drop but I am fed up that phone has so many bugs and Sony could not care less.

Generic US firmware has been on 10.1.A.1.434 for a very long time too. Yesterday it finally received an update to 10.3.A.0.423. Hopefully Generic UK will be updated too this week. However, if I had a phone with Generic UK firmware, I would already have changed it to a different customization a long time ago.

Nevertheless, it's a total disgrace that it takes so long, that's for sure. I hope that the person who is in charge for releasing that update understands what kind of damage he is doing to the brand reputation (and future sales figures) of Sony Mobile in the UK. After all, the Xperia Z is (supposed to be) a flagship phone.

True.

Anyone got a Sony centre near them?

Go and have a stand off with them until there's an answer, someone in the company will know what is going on and it would be interesting to know if Sony employees (who most I bet have a Z) have flashed an update or are just waiting patiently!!!
