UK Sony Xperia Z updates for unbranded phones.

Could somebody from Sony please explain why thousands of us are now 3 updates behind now regarding firmware updates?

We are still on 434!

How do we get Sonys attention on this?

At the risk of repeating a previous post

Why are all the Unbranded phone people so insistent on getting the update before anyone else - many contract people of networks have not recieved it either.

The whole situation is a total shambles - when Nokia release a major update you can go to there site and get a pretty accurate idea when it will be sent out to all the various handsets versions and network providers and countries.

So why cant sony who are at least in the same league not do the same - how hard can it be.

My next phone will be back to NOKIA and if not the 1020 the one to be announced after it. - all the relevant apps are coming on stream for windows phone now so back i go.

I even got the run around from my provider VIRGIN MOBILE who wont give me an answer on the update saying its up to SONY.

Hey,  Sony. Since I gave up waiting on you and installed Cyanogenmod, I have had 2 updates and bug fixes to my phone. And that's from a volunteer,  not-for-profit team. While you've abandoned us and not issued a single patch since I bought my phone unlocked months ago,  yet you're a billion dollar global giant. Just sayin'....

Whats the point of this:

"Latest available software

You may already have the latest software, depending on the date of purchase. Software updates are released at different times depending on operator and/or country. Therefore, we cannot give you an exact date for when a specific update will be available for your device.

Android version: Google Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean)

Latest available software: 10.3.A.0.423

Release started: 2013-06-24"

- Unbranded phones do not have "operator" customisations, thus they need no special customisations other than the country specific ones.

- There have been UK operators that received updates, so the "country" customisation has been achieved, right?

Sony reps, where is my updated firmware? Why do I have to wait more for updates than other Xperia Z users? Do you think customers that pay full price for your flagship smartphone enjoy being treated as 2nd rate customers?

Unbranded people have to complain to Sony directly as branded phones such as Virgin have to have the firmware adapted to the operator's requirements ie to put on Virgin specific apps so you can complain to Virgin to say okay Vodafone, Three etc have released a firmware adopted for their networks why have you not done this for us yet? Owners of unbranded phones have no-one to complain to or question other than Sony. The country specific versions of the firmware have released for the UK and we have no operatator so it is ridiculous that we do not have it. For all of us Generic owners  we bought the phones, often  directly from Sony Mobile, on the understanding that 4.2 was just about to be released for the phone but that has since proved to be a completely misleading statement. To rub salt in the wound we only recieved one update 434 and that was it!

Zunido I raised those points directly to Sony Support on a number of occasions and they ignored them completely. Solution we complain everywhere you can so that people know that Sony = Zero product support. Use Facebook

This is getting ridiculous now, it's been 3 weeks since the release supposedly started. To make matters even worse, other branded handsets have the update, and the software we have (.434) is buggy - like galaxy s3 can get 45 mbps download at my house but xperia z can only get 18 mbps. Shame on you, Sony.

Does anybody know what bloatware is on Vodafone's 4.2.2 software and if there are any other differences to unbranded software, because I'm thinking of using that software now. Would I still receive updates for ny phone? Could I later revert back to unbranded software? Thanks in advance.

Sony are being so helpful on their help forum aren't they?

I love how a certain person hasn't even come here to tell us to wait like he used to with me, (oh yes, I am back baby)!!

sony why do you lie to us??

Hi Tom Greene

I write you specific as you mention Virgin (UK) phones in your post - i have a Virgin Phone but i have not yet recieved the update - although it seems i may not be that happy when i do.

Maybe you could just confirm that what your saying is the update has been rolled out to a Virgin Phone and how you know this.

I am still suffereing the Stamina Mode issue from the first Battery update near the beginiing and also Wireless strength signal issues.

Why flashing branded firmware? You can just use Generic ES firmware. It contains all UK features and no branding. Yes, you will receive updates for the customization you are currently using (both through your PC and OTA). Generic ES seems to get updated first each time.

There is no firmware customization for Virgin UK, so you probably have Generic UK. Check your customization number. See [INFO] Latest firmware version per customization (region/branding)
