UK Sony Xperia Z updates for unbranded phones.

Could somebody from Sony please explain why thousands of us are now 3 updates behind now regarding firmware updates?

We are still on 434!

How do we get Sonys attention on this?

Why don't we get a response from someone at Sony if you want this thread and others to go away get them to give us an answer don't delete posts because they embarrass Sony let them sort there problems out they have created them. All they are doing is biting the hand that feeds them.

Hi Geoff a couple of weeks ago you mentioned that you were raising this internally as there was no reason why these phones should be 3 updates behind. Did you hear anything back?

Sony are still giving the usual generic response that update rolling out gradually etc which might fair enough except that this is what they said in respect of every update that was released and which was not made available to us. I have asked Sony custoemr service what will be the next firmware ie what version to be released for UK generic and gotten no response. Sony are stating on Facebook that a new firmware release is being tested and the implication is that it might be released in September, which makes all these even more farcial. Sony have lost a lot of customers over this and they are customers who can afford to spend £540 on a phone so all are reasonably affluent ones. What is really really annoying is that Sony could not care less and these phones have major bugs ie wifi connectivity and camera that were addressed in 253 etc.

no I didn't hear anything back

As I said in an earlier post (just my opinion) I think that Sony has lost the records for a whole batch of phones and they don't have a fix for it - and I understand why they don't have a fix for it  but I'm not going to go there

The solution is a hard one to crack - how do they bring all these unknown devices back into the fold - the problem might be so big that it is not possible

If I was Sony right now I'd be offering software to those that have this problem that would enable them to update their devices and at the same time send the registration data to the Sony databases to allow for future updates - I honestly think that the Manufacturing plant in China released a number of phones to certain markets  and lost the serial numbers - in other words your phone identity does not exist in Sony's servers

That is my opinion as to what is going on and is completely my opinion - I do not represent Sony on this matter - but they need to fix it

I recall seeing it printed in various blogs for the phone but won't it need to be a statement or an actual advert from Sony itself to then launch a complaint?

Thank you for this response. It would be better to hear something like this from Sony then at least we know where we stand and could get the update through other methods.

The availibility of updates solely depends on the customization number (CDF ID) of the firmware that is currently installed on your phone. The serial number doesn't have anything to do with this. If you change to a diffent firmware customization (e.g. from Generic UK to Generic ES), you will receive all future updates (through Sony PC Companion, Sony Update Service, Sony Bridge for Mac and OTA) for your new firmware customization (Generic ES), because your CDF ID has changed too (from 1270-7689 to 1270-6697).

Sony still has Generic UK firmware version 10.1.A.1.434 on their update server, so they could easily update this to the latest 10.3.A.0.423 if they want. My guess is that they are waiting for O2 IE (Ireland) to release the update, because they're still on 10.1.A.1.434 too. Generic IE firmware does not exist, so Generic UK is probably also being used in Ireland. It would be useful if someone could confirm this.

If you're tired of waiting, just change to Generic ES firmware. It only takes 5 to 10 minutes and it's a one-time job. After that, you'll automatically receive all future updates for Generic ES, which is very fast, as it is one of the firmwares that gets updated first each time. It will work perfectly fine on mobile networks in the UK, as the only differences are some small settings (like NFC logo) and the bundled apps. Also, your warranty will not be void by doing this. However, if you send your phone in for repair, it will be changed back to Generic UK firmware.
