UK Sony Xperia Z updates for unbranded phones.

Could somebody from Sony please explain why thousands of us are now 3 updates behind now regarding firmware updates?

We are still on 434!

How do we get Sonys attention on this?

Can anyone suggest the four updates we are behind and when they were officially released? I am just drafting an email to her HQ, just need the correct info as well as the release dates.

Also, I would urge you to write to the UK Head of Sony at christopher.bowen@eu.sony.com for his attention.

Thanks

I'm curious. When these updates finally arrive, what should I expect, how much better will my phone acually be?

I don't think it would be a good idea to swear - but 10/10 for thinking outside the box Slightly_smiling_Face

The only thing I can possibly think of is that a third party is blocking the release onto phones supplied by them and Sony cannot state this otherwise said third party will come down on them like a tonne of bricks (legally speaking) - that is the only plausible explanation I can think of that would warrant the stonewalling and total lack communication regarding this issue.

I've mostly ignored your posts TerryCox, but you are right - I don't expect my world to change with this update - although I do expect the later 4.2.2 update to be applied that should be better than the initial 4.2.2 release which you point out is getting less than favourable reviews...

I need the fixes applied to versions that have been released and I have bought the Xperia Z on the promise that I would get 4.2 "shortly" after release - I want the 4.2 features - if I had known this would happen, I would have bought another (non-Sony) device.

Done sir and on behalf of all of us.

Dear sir.

I purchased Sonys flagship phone the Xperia Z in march of this year but major issues with the firmware updates for UK unbranded devices have sadly seriously marred my Xperia Z experience.

UK unbranded devices now are 4 updates behind.  We haven't received a single update since April.

If you care to check the update list here you will see uk generic phones are still stuck on 434.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2315914

We have tried making this issue aware to Sony by starting a thread on Sonys support forum.

http://talk.sonymobile.com/thread/142470?tstart=0

On typing this email it has had over 20,000 views.  There are thousands of unhappy unbranded owners like myself, who feel severely let down because of this problem.   If you care to see the many comments on this thread you will see this to be the case.

It seems UK unbranded phone owners are being ignored and are invisible as we haven't had any acknowledgment or response from any Sony Mod on this issue. Ringing or emailing Sonys support only brings the same standard response without actually looking into why we are now 4 updates behind.

All of this adds frustration and anger as I'm sure you can understand.  I know there are more important things to worry about but that's not the point.  Clearly something is wrong.  Either with Sonys update policy or there's an oversight and we have been forgotten.  In view of my experience with Sonys flagship device I will probably never buy a Sony phone again which is a shame as the phone is amazing.  It's just customer support and the update policy is seemingly a complete shambles. Sony isn't delivering.

I will post this email on Sonys support forum along with your response when received so that the many other interested parties are kept informed on this matter.

Forget "Make Believe", make "US believe"

I very much look forward to your

response on these issues I have raised with you.

Great work.

Below is the reply from UK Cust service to my repeated emails to their UK CEO. They first responded with the standard reply but in this one they say they will look into the matter.

Dear K Ramswaroop,

Again I would like to apologise for any delays which you have experienced in getting the latest update. To our knowledge the rollout of this update began in June and is still continuing and there is nothing to suggest your handset will not get this update. This may just take a little time.

In regards to any previous updates can you please provide further information on the updates and we can again look into what the problem may have been? In regards to your issues I can confirm I have raised this with higher management within the contact centre and we are fully investigating all the options for you as a priority. If you would like to discuss anything please email me again and I will respond at the earliest opportunity.

We will investigate this for you and try and provide a response as quickly as we can. We hopefully will be able to come back to you with more information by the end of next week.

Kind Regards,

Sony Xperia UK Customer Services

Can anyone of you give me the details as to the updates and their date of roll-outs please?

Ram

I'm pretty sure it's 4 now with the patches maybe 5 but that is why I supplied the xda firmware link in my email so it was comparable.

I'm touched and honoured that you chose to read my post, really has made my day.

I'm not saying that Sony's form isn't bad on this issue, but some of the overreaction on here is beyond belief, as are some of the analogies.

The reason I'm commenting on this thread is because I, like most people on here, was curious as to when my handset would get updated. I got my Z the day it was released and like everyone else, I was comforted by the fact that Sony said "It'll be updated soon after release" Needless to say Sony's idea of "soon" is very different to mine.

There is no need to get on the backs of the people in customer service, anyone who like me has had the mispleasure of working in a customer service department will know it's not easy, you don't know everything and more often that not, we poor desk monkey's are the last to know. I think lostinmusic72 email approach is well written and well thought out, hopefully it will elicit a response. people just need to calm down.

REPOST: It looks like this thread is being monitored and Sony have deleted the posts - I suspect it was mailroomman's posts have done this - so my re-post below was right.

@mailroomman - Don't get yourself banned from the forum by swearing! I suspect it doesn't really help with our cause, potentially the opposite...

Fair play on emailing Sony - I have done the same and got exactly the same unthoughtful, pre-written response. Clearly missing the point that this usergroup have not had the last four updates and still on a old version - and saying we will get them at some point doesn't really cut the mustard...

There are two issues here - firstly, we aren't receiving updates in a timely fashion to fix issues experienced by most of us.

Secondly, more importantly, the device was sold under the promise from Sony that this device will have Android 4.2 "shortly after release" - Five months is no way "shortly" in the Consumer Mobile Phone market and was certainly a marketing tactic to ensure that the Xperia Z was in with a chance to compete in this very competitive market. After reading up on this and looking at the CAB site, it appears to me that we have been misled which is covered under UK regulations; http://www.adviceguide.org.uk/england/consumer_w/consumer_protection_for_the_consumer_e/consumer_unf...

@TerryCox - I certainly appreciate a dry sense of humour

Whilst I agree we need to keep calm to make sure our point is not lost - sadly, customer service will always get the brunt of a back office decision making to ignore their customers. I believe those who are choosing not to respond or acknowledge should experience a week or two in customer services to ensure they understand the real world implications of their decision making...
