Could somebody from Sony please explain why thousands of us are now 3 updates behind now regarding firmware updates?
We are still on 434!
How do we get Sonys attention on this?
Solved! Go to Solution.
SO when can we expect 4.3?
Can you check your customization number? This can be found in your service menu (dial *#*#7378423#*#* > 'Service info' > 'Software info' > 'Customization Version'). If you have Generic UK firmware, it should be 1270-7689 and the update to 10.3.A.0.423 should be available through Sony PC Companion / Sony Update Service / Sony Bridge for Mac.
When you 'update' through any of those programs, the complete (updated) firmware image gets written to the flash memory of your phone. Technically this is called 'flashing'. Exactly the same happens when you install the new firmware with Flashtool.
I would settle for a bug-free version of v4.2 - I've "upgraded" from a buggy version of v4.1 to a buggy version of v4.2.
Ok so I am now able to use the v4.2 features I was after when purchasing this phone - but I have the screen flicker issue, etc.
Question is, why has Sony deemed it neceassary to release a known buggy v4.2 to this device variant rather than the latest version (which is on 75% of the different variants out there)? I am sure it can't be a silly petty swipe at their angry customers who are kicking up a stink about this poor state of, but I have to say it certainly looks like it....
Just to show this, this is the latest as of 8th August;
Come on Sony, what on earth is going on??
Most likely because 3 UK and 3 IE haven't approved the most recent version yet.
10.3.1.A.0.244 is now out on the UK Unbranded Xperia Z just updated mine via PC companion.
Didn't have to wait long since installing 423 hopefully Sony are sorting their act out with updates.
Finally the UK phones of all types are UP TOO DATE i do hope this means that any future updates are expedited as quickly to all handsets in the UK.
I am confident this has been a SONY / NETWORK PROVIDER issue which i hope has been resolved and means that in timely fashion when 4.3 and then 5.0 Android become available they will roll to phones and we wont have to have 31 pages on a forum discussion for it all to happen.
If the above happens then ANdroid and maybe Sony will continue to get my business as with the impending OFFICE 365 for Android i will have all i need for my Android phone without jump ship back to windows.
Finally thank you to all those helpful people who tried to get me to flash my phone using tried and tested methods so i could have the firmware more quickly - its not for me - i accept that the Sony softwrae does exactly the same but i prefer to wait.
Just done the same - very late in coming, but at least it is here now.
Strangely - 3 UK and 3 IE are still on 10.3.A.0.423.
I am not convinced it is a Network Provider issue - there has been a lot of guessing on this site, but 3 is still on the old network.
The only thing it could possibly be is a Orange/EE issue as they use the Generic Customer ID... However, it was reported on here that a Sony representative said there was nothing holding it up - it was just going through the system... The fact the system was out of date by 4 versions and a number of months suggests that this was something more. I suspect we will never get an explanation - However, I would suggest that a press release holding hands up to a mistake would increase consumer confidence and provide some assurance that this issue won't happen again and that lessons were learned... Most of us are reasonable and will understand... The rest will have forgotten this episode by tomorrow...
That being said - thank you Sony for giving us this update.
