what is the small meter that comes up on the notification bar?

Twice already, my Xperia Z suddenly turns of the WiFi and mobile data, and a small meter comes up next to the phone signal on the notification bar. I can't figure out what it is or why it comes up.. I can turn the WiFi and mobile data back on but the little meter doesn't disappear. Can someone help? I posted a picture. It's the 1st to the left.

settings > power management > low battery mode > turn it off

remember that either "low battery mode" and/or stamina mode will disable wifi, gps, mobile data, etc.
