Can I put in a SIM card from South Africa and use it in that country
Hi @Lovemore, welcome to our community!
This depends on if your device is locked to a specific operator or not and this is information that I won't be able to provide and that you need to check with your operator about. You can also check if a friend, colleague or family member have a SIM card from a different operator that you can test with in your device and see if you are able to get an active network connection. If you are able to get a network connection, that means that the device is not locked to an operator and you can use SIM cards from different operators.
The network operator that you are planning to use in South Africa also needs to support at least one of the network bands that your device is using, so you can get a network connection and be able to make calls, receive calls and use mobile data.
Below is a list of the support bands for the different two different versions of the Xperia L1 (Settings > About phone > Model).
UMTS HSPA+ 850 (Band V), 900 (Band VIII), 1900 (Band II), 2100 (Band I) MHz
GSM GPRS/EDGE 850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz
LTE (Bands 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 8, 20)
UMTS HSPA+ 850 (Band V), 900 (Band VIII),1700 (Band IV), 1900 (Band II), 2100 (Band I) MHz
GSM GPRS/EDGE 850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz
LTE (Bands 2, 4, 5, 7, 12, 17, 28)
I hope that helps!
