Arc update hangs on step 2 (press & hold back key...)

Hey,

I've been trying to update my Arc to 2.3.4 and whenever I get to stage 2 of the update I follow the instructions to the letter (unplug, check battery, turn off, hold back key, re-plug) and yet nothing happens. I've tried it with different USB cables, and different USB slots. The only possible difference to any other user is that I'm doing this on Windows XP & PC Companion, on my macbook (via bootcamp).

This is really yanking my chain, I've been at this for a couple of hours now with no joy. Is this happening to anyone else? Or just me? Does anyone have any idea what's going on.

Why on earth do I even need to do this through my computer anyway? The last update just came through my wifi, and that went off without a hitch!

Unfortunately I know next to nothing regarding the use of a MAC. However if you were using a PC I would tell you to boot into safe mode and I believe the MAC OS has a similar function. Please try booting into this mode and then run the update again as this often gets you past the problem.

Some updates are bit more intensive and require connection to a PC instead of a Wi-Fi connection. Can you please confirm if the handset powers back on when you connect it whilst holding the back key?

The little green led above the usb port lights up, but the phone doesn't turn on. Battery was at 65% the last time I tried it, would've been higher earlier.

Fair enough about the more intensive update.

Maybe I'm just having an unlucky night, I'll give it a rest until tomorrow.

Hi

I'm having the exact same problem.

I tired booting in safe mode, but then my laptop couldn't connect to wifi. Is that meant to happen in safe mode or was my laptop just playing up?

Any advice appreciated as my Arc is getting a bit sluggish and I think is in need of the update.

You will need to physically connect to your router for this to work.
