PCG-K115Z Over heating / Freezing

Hi All,

Bought a K115Z last Monday (8 days ago)... seems like an excellent machine, fantastic screen.

However after 3 or 4 days I started to get a total freeze up at least once a day (even cntr alt delete doesnt work, its a pull the battery and power cord out lock up).

Problem seemed to go away for a couple of days (while I was not using wireless as I was at my parents house - maybe connected maybe not).

Spoke to Vaio support today they had me stop all programs loading on start up. Unfortunatly this evening I have had 4 lock ups on the bounce (within an hour).

This leads me to the conclusion that the problem is most probably heat related (or maybe, just maybe something to do with wireless)

Anybody have any suggestions?

Where do I stand with getting my money back and giving this machine back to Sony?? (I dont want to do that, but I just have a feeling that this could turn out to be a nonfixable problem)

Paul

The only way you'll get your money back is from the original retailer. Sony will only repair the notebook.

Hi,

Read all of this and see if anything helps you.
I found lots of Forums with people looking for a solution to this. Seems to be a common problem. This was the only one where anyone had suggestions for fixing.
Looks like it is Wireless related, and not a problem with the Vaio

If this does not help I do not know what you can do, As I said there are lots of people trying to find a fix for this.

Maybe we need to get Gordy on the case

I would speak to the retailer, as it's within the 28 days of ownership.

Hi,

I have looked through the wireless thread on the other forum, however I`m 95percent sure that my problems are heat not wifi.

As it happens my old Dell (4 years + old and never frozen once in its entire life!) is part of my wireless network using a Netgear WG511 and my router is also Netgear WG834G in fact.

Today I went back to the earliest restore point on the Vaio..... after a couple of hours of work (hard work for me and the cpu) it froze.

I then stuck in the Restore CD and did as near to a format as you can these days (without a full version of the OS).... first thing it did when it booted back up was to freeze again.

I am heart broken. I love this machine, the screen is WAY better than anything else in the market place but at the end of the day I earn my living on my PCs and the sad fact is that today I had to go back to working on my 4 year old Dell - which this grand plus thing was supposed to pension off....

So, what are my consumer rights here? Surely Sony has a legal obligation to provide me with something that works for my money?? And at the moment this thing can not be considered to be working!

Cheers
Paul

Strictly speaking, in the UK the retailer you bought the machine from is the responsible party. Although Sony manufacture the computer, they only offer a warranty that is in addition to your statutory rights.

What it comes down to is that if you want a replacement or your money back then you should contact the retailer. They should also be able to sort out a repair with Sony if that is your wish.

If you want the computer repaired then you could contact Sony (You should also contact your retailer before doing this to get their agreement in case you want to take the computer back to them if you have problems with Sony. Get their agreement in writing)

Hi,

Nightmare!

If I thought Sony could fix it, then I would go for that without a thought.

However if I`m right and this is a heat thing, I dont see what they can do?

This is a brand new model in their range and I tend to think I am not going to be the only one with this problem!

So, its a phone call to shop in Tottenham Court Road in the morning - that should be good for a laugh............ NOT
