I got a xperia. Z about a week ago and I find its camera to be sub par and nowhere close to 13mp. Also it heats up and temperature goes up to 45 degrees which is not comfortable to hold at all. Coming back to camera the photos taken by xperia z in burst mode at mid level captures better details than normal or superior auto mode and people at xperiablog are aware about it. The pics when viewed on bigger screen comes out like oil painting.At full resolution the pics just break. Leave alone low light even in incandescent lighting pics are horrible beyond 5 MP and that too after tweaking the manual settings. First time I am feeling let down by Sony mobile after using about 10 phones from them in past.

Sony needs to have a list of all the "issues" and what is honestly being addressed and at what level. No clue, have to troll all the threads and hope/pray a Sony person, not Super User actually offers a response or reaches out for information from a user. This issue has been reported over and over and over again.

Plus every single review that compare camera to S4 and HTC One point out what users here are complaining about! Current reviews no longer look at Z/ZL and just use HTC vs Samsung. Sony please inform us! The camera issue(s) and what else is priority and being reviewed!

I actually got a response from Sony Support Center for the fix of camera issue, which is copy/pasted below, I tried this and it fixes the issue till some extent but not all, what they did is just made the picture more smoother than sharper and did not change the compression ratio:

Dear Rahul,

Thank you for contacting the Sony Xperia support centre.

We understand that you have issues with your Sony Xperia Z handset regarding camera clarity issue with your handset.

We value the importance of your concern and we are here to assist you.

In response to your query we would like to inform you that in order to resolve the handset issue kindly do the service test or function test in your handset by following the below mentioned link:

We would also like to inform you that kindly repair your handset software. In case there can be a software issue with the device we would request you to install PC companion on your PC by following the below mentioned steps;

1.Connect the USB cable to your computer and then to the phone.

2.Wait for the phone to connect.

3.If autorun is activated on your computer, you will be notified about available PC software from Sony

4.To execute Sony PC Software manually, go to Windows Explorer and run Startme.exe from your phone’s memory card.

5.Select your preferred language.

6.Click Install to start the installation and follow the instructions on the screen.
Note: If PC Companion doesn’t find your phone within 30 seconds, disconnect the phone and redo step 1 to 3.

After downloading the PC companion on your PC or laptop follow the below mentioned steps:

1.Connect the USB cable to your computer and then to the phone.

2.On the phone: Mount the memory card by dragging the status bar on the phone downwards and then tap USB

3.From the Dashboard, select the applications to start different services and get information.

4.When you will connect the phone to PC or laptop then you will see support zone option on your PC tap on support zone, select repair software then tap start and then follow the instructions.

As you are facing same concern with the handset, we request you to visit your nearest Sony Mobile Service Centre. Our technician will assist you in a best way.

We recommend you take along the proof of purchase while visiting theSony Mobile Service Centre. Your handset would be repaired under warranty if it meets all the warranty guidelines.

Before submitting your phone at the Sony Mobile Service Centre, kindly take a backup of the phone contacts data to the SIM card. Kindly take the backup of Images, clips etc. on to the memory card or on to the PC. Backup can be taken, provided the phone is in “Power ON” condition. The technicians at the Sony Mobile Service Centre and Sony Mobile India would not be responsible for the loss of data during the repair process.

We would like to inform you that kindly take the backup of contacts in your handset memory card by following the below mentioned steps in your handset:

2. Contacts
3. Action Key
4. Backup to Memory card
