media server is the second user after display  - from what I understand it handles syncs with stuff like FB - walkman  - google+ etc, so if you are setup to sync a lot of stuff it will be active, although consider that 40% of battery usage is a relative term and is simply compared to other processes on the OS so it may not be using that much battery - my battery duration has increased considerably since I got the phone a week ago - my big user usually 70% plus is the display but that's because I had it full bright and was constantly playing with my new device

out of the box mine on a full charge lasted a few hours, now easily a full day

consider this -

Battery will depend on your usage profile, for an average user you will get at least a day

It is reallt depebding on stuff like screen brightness and how long you have the screen illuminated - what apps you are using - constant sync activity - GPS wifi BT, I know for a fact that GPS will drain your battery fast on any phone, couple that with the screen on during navigation sessions and it is a charger only situation

Don't forget you have a device with quadcore cpu and high end graphics some things are just not meant to run on battery - I have a game that I installed it is very graphic and cpu orientated - I'd say it pushes this system to the limit - I know the system is working hard because it gets hot and even with the charger plugged in it is still discharging the battery - yes this game would eventually cause a shutdown even when plugged into the mains lol

so you need to consider what you are doing and where - if you are using GPS etc then have it on a charger

I view these phones like my laptop as opposed to a phone - it has a battery but will be limited if you start pushing things

I had the same problem with media server draining my battery like crazy.  Something like 37%.  I went from 100% to 18% over 10 hours with only using the phone 3 times for a total of 40 minutes doing simple web surfing and calling.

But I think I found a solution, I just turned off 'media' in running apps and it seems to work to the trick.

Now I don't get media chewing up battery life and since last night I went from 95% to 85% in 9 hours with only making a phone call during that time.  I also had stamina mode turned on during that 9 hours overnight.
