Hi, I recently purchases an Xperia XA, and I've been using it for the past week or so, and earlier today I decided to install the latest update (Marshmallow build 33.2.A.3.105) to eventually update it to Android 7.0 Nougat.
My problem, is that when I tried to update the phone (Directly OTA), it downloaded the update, and when it finished, I pressed install/ continue, it then started installing, the phone rebooted once, and returned to the lock screen as if it was just normally rebooted. I then went into the settings to see if it had updated and it was saying that the update was unable to be installed (did give me an error code or reason why). So I tried again (4 times in total), and it gave me the same result every single time.
So, as an alternative method of updating, I downloaded Xperia Companion on my PC (Window 7 SP1 64-bit, all windows updates installed), and plugged my phone into a USB 3.0 port on the back of my motherboard, Xperia Companion detected the phone and told me that there was an available update (Same build - 33.2.A.3.105), so I told it to install, and it started to download the update. Once it had finished, it came up with a message asking me if I wanted to install it now, or do it later, I pressed update now.
It gave me a box with a few options, ('Next' 'Back' & 'Cancel'), I clicked 'Next', expecting it to go to the next page, and install the update, but nothing happened, the menu didn't progress onto another screen, the phone didn't do anything (It was connected the entire time the update was downloading), no messages on the phone...Nothing.
So, I waited about 15 minutes for something to happen, but it never did, so I canceled the update, and tried downloading again. And like before, it downloaded the update, I pressed 'Next', and still nothing. So I rebooted the phone, my PC, and downloaded a fresh copy of Xperia Companion, and tried again - Same result.
I've now turned off my antivirus (and kept it off until I manually close Xperia Companion), and I'm now downloading the update again, I personally don't have a lot of confidence that it'll work though. I've also tried running it as administrator (done it for all attempts). If this attempt doesn't work, then I'll turn on developer options, and enable USB debugging, which probably won't help, but you never know. Fingers crossed that this one works.
Anyone have any issues like this, and were you able to fix them? If so how?
Thanks in advance for any replies
- Dan.

Glad to hear it's working for you @Dan_Thomas
Usually reformatting the SD card will do the trick but if you're still having problems with that please let me know.
Can you give an estimated date for the nougat update? at least the month..
Hi @JazAmora909,
Unfortunately we are unable to confirm specific date for any particular firmware release due to the nature of the approval process as the updates are customised by multiple parties before being released.
I have an Xperia Z3+, which had Nougat running on it, suddenly it started having issues with the touchscreen, so I gave it to the service centre, when I came back home I noticed that they had installed the MM update...6.0.1, so I searched through the phones software update option itself but did not find the nougat update.....then I connected it through Xperia Companion, still it says that 6.0.1 is the latest software for Z3+, I have just read on other blogs, it has been mentioned that Sony has pulled back the Nougat update due to some inconsistencies, I just want to know if that is true?
I had a small sized 'required update' on my XA a few hours ago, not sure what it was for as there was nothing in the update history, so I couldn't check the size of the update. I'm thinking it might of been a small system update that prepares the device to receive a bigger update soon (Hopefully Nougat).
that is exactly what i am experiencing right now, phone just won't update, neither OTA nor via PC Companion (same screen like you posted)...
seems like i have to reset my phone which i really wanted to avoid 😉
btw, i think this issue has something to do with my sd card being formatted as internal storage. was your sd card also formatted as internal?
Matthias
Not before I had this issue. I fixed this issue by performing a software reset though Xperia Companion.
